From 1 January 2025, individual electronic Identification Devices will be mandatory for sheep and goat farmers in NSW
The NSW Government has recently announced that individual electronic identification devices (eID) will be mandatory for sheep and goats across New South Wales. To support this action, the NSW Government has commenced an eID Discount Program to assist sheep and farmed goat producers with this transition.
NSW Government Tag Discount Program for Electronic Identification Devices
The implementation and transition of mandatory Electronic Identification Devices (eIDs) on sheep and goats has commenced in NSW and will be mandatory from 1 January 2025. To support this action and encourage early tagging before 1st January, the NSW Government has implemented an eID Tag Discount Program to assist sheep and goat farmers with this movement. This program will allow a $0.76 each (inc.GST), discount for 2025 NLIS-accredited white eID devices. This program will be available between 1 November 2024 till 31 October 2025 (or until funds are exhausted) (NSW Government, 2025). Retailers and manufacturers will have these $0.76 (incl GST) discounts applied to any eligible eID devices at the point of sale, for any purchases under 3500 units. Sheep and goat farmers will require pre-approval for any orders over 3500 eID devices and can request approval through an online form on the NSW Government website.
The Device Discount Program is intended to assist sheep and goat farmers implement individual electronic identification devices before the mandatory date (1 January 2025). Sheep and Goat farmers will need to provide an active Property Identification Code (PIC) to be eligible to receive the noted discount. The device discount program will be available between 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2025 (or until funds are exhausted).
